Dwight D. Karkan

Dwight D. Karkan is a man of puzzles and he loves the challenge of a good riddle! Currently, his favorite puzzles and riddles is learning how to be a good husband, father, and pastor.

Dwight truly believes that we are all designed as a beautiful combination of awesomeness, uniqueness, passions, gifts, and talents. However, the only way to get a little closer to discovering who we are is by engaging each other in love!

Born July 21st, 1980 at a Navy hospital in San Fransisco, California, he spent much of his childhood as a Navy brat until his family settled into the wide openness of southern Ohio.

His father became a radar technician for the FAA and his mother stayed at home with the five of the kids, though she dabble with a career as an EMT for a season. With two brothers, and two sisters, the house was never dull.

Dwight grew up surrounded by Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy books but also enjoyed books from Michael Critchton before he Critchton passed.

Dwight didn’t always dream about being an author, but had twenty-two years of writing sermons and sermon illustrations for teens in his youth group. It wasn’t until after the creation of an anonymous riddle for his local community under the disguise of Bixby Timmons that his wife, Amber encouraged him to start writing the Bixby Timmons Series. He said, “No.”

Two nights after dismissing the idea of Bixby Timmons as a book, Dwight had a dream more vivid than any he had ever had before. Three weeks later the first Bixby Timmons book was born.

While trying to solicit how to publish a book at the bookshop of world renowned author, Nora Roberts, Dwight was overheard talking to the store manager and Nora herself walked out from the back room and gave him the kick he needed in the right direction.

“If you just want your name on a book, self-publish, but if you truly believe you have something, take the narrow road and get an agent and a publisher.”

Dwight spent ten months looking for the right person to take Bixby on all while writing the next two books in the series.

Jessica Schmeidler of Golden Wheat Literature gave him his break, finding Galen of Tiny Fox Press, and the rest has been magic ever since.

In 2019, Dwight’s daughter Selah was diagnosed with Leukemia which has been thier family’s biggest puzzle yet! His hope for Bixby Timmons is that not only will it bring a light to students who want to do bigger things than they think they are capable, but also to help families who have been through a similar struggle like cancer.
